Rules and Safety

Please read and adhere to our rules before fishing

 1. Seasons:


  • Salmon 11th February to 31* October
  • Trout 15th March to 6th October. 


2. Annual Subscriptions/Day Tickets MUST BE PAID before fishing


 3. Waters:


  • River Ken -Left bank from Suspension Bridge to March Fence beyond Boatknowe - excluding Boatknowe frontage. Right bank from Allan Gibbon Bridge to Coom Burm. 


  • Carsfad Dam - West Bank Only 


  • Earlstoun Dam - Boat only 


4. Methods of Fishing: 


  • River Ken - Fly only until 1st May, then fly, worm or spinner only - no other method allowed. 


  • Carsfad - Fly, spinner or worm may be used. 


  • Earlstoun- Members only. 


  • One rod only to be used and rod must be held in hand at all times when fishing.


  • No natural Minnow, maggot or groundbait allowed. 


6.  Returns: 


All trout under nine inches in length, salmon, fry, other fry and unclean fish must be returned to the water.

7. Permits, fish and tackle in possession of holder must be exhibited to any one of the members of the Association on request or to any Water Bailiff, Policeman or Gamekeeper. 


8. Boathouse keys, batteries and buoyancy aids MUST be returned WITHOUT DELAY each day. 


9. No fishing between midnight and an hour before sunrise


10. No keep nets. 


11. No Dogs, Litter or Fires.


12. Only recognised paths to be used, and all gates must be closed. 


13. Members using boats on Earlstoun and fishing the Ken are specifically warned of the dangers of:


 a) Approaching the intake canal on the west bank of the reservoir 


b) Approaching the structure of the dam itself (Particularly in high water). 


c) The sudden rise of water in the river Ken, Carsfad and Earlstoun due to the Power Station operations. 


d) Buoyancy Aids must be worn at all times


14. Any member or permit holder found contravening the rules of the association will be liable to be expelled from the association and their ticket withdraw for life.
